Dell to go carbon neutral by 2008
Computer
manufacturer Dell (Round Rock, Texas) announced
yesterday that it will be carbon-neutral by 2008, beating its previous target
by a year.
As part of its carbon-neutral plan, Dell is expanding its "Plant a Tree for Me" initiative — offering individual consumers the ability to offset carbon emissions from their computer usage — to " Plant a Forest for Me," a multi-organization program designed to "share best practices, partner and facilitate the planting of millions of trees in sustainably managed reforestation projects."
The carbon-neutrality initiative will be spread across the entire company and will include: A requirement that logistics suppliers use biodiesel for a portion of their energy usage; that emissions evaluations be implemented for fleet vehicles; and that a company-wide power management program, including the replacement of office lighting at the Round Rock, Texas facility, be established to make the company more energy efficient.
