Greenpeace wags finger at video game console makers
Environmental watchdog group Greenpeace (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) released a new report targeting consumer electronics manufacturers, this time focusing on the world's three main video game console companies.
Microsoft
(Redmond, Washington), Nintendo (Kyoto, Japan) and Sony (Tokyo) all were urged
by Greenpeace, in its Playing Dirty report,
to make the greenest console possible.
To meet this goal, the environmental group
is asking the console manufacturers to:
- Design consoles free of hazardous materials and chemicals
- Produce energy efficient machines, as well as inform consumers on energy efficient usage
- Take global responsibility for unwanted products
- Make upgradable and recyclable products.
Conversely, all three manufacturers are compliant with European Union RoHS Directive regulations, according to Greenpeace testing.
