Mortgage Records Abandoned

According to a report by Denver Channel 7 News on April 28th, two Colorado mortgage companies are the latest to contribute to the epidemic of sensitive records being put at risk by defunct lenders across the US.

Like other incidents, it starts with the sensitive records being abandoned by the “no-where-to-be-found” owners of a failed mortgage brokerage company. The records are then carelessly discarded, intact, by the property manager or landlord.

According to the report, in this case, not only were there records of those who had used the broker to secure loans, but also of the company’s employees.

The report does say that the Sheriff's investigators located one of the owners and talked him into retrieving the files, many of which had private information, including Social Security numbers and credit history.
