Texas Attorney General Fines Company for Violating Destruction Law
According
to a number of reports linked below, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott (pictured) has fined yet
another company for discarding personal information without destroying it
first, thus violating the state’s destruction requirement.
Reports claim that Ohio-based Check n’ Go will pay $220,000 in fines. In addition, the judgment requires the firm to create written policies to prevent such incidents in the future, including employee training and development of systems and procedures to ensure proper destruction.
In March of this year, the Texas AG’s office announced a $315,000 dollar settlement with CVS Pharmacy for a similar violation. Additional cases are in the process of settlement.
