Oregon e-scrap program extends deadlines
The DEQ requests that if a manufacturer does wish to change its recycling choice, to email panciera.kelly@deq.state.or.us before the deadline
Due to some confusion about State Contractor Program (SCP) costs, the DEQ wishes to let participants know that the costs of the SCP will be scaled appropriately, depending on how many manufacturers participate. The administrative costs initially presented for the program were based on a 100-percent manufacturer participation rate, which will not be the case. The department will pare administrative costs and size appropriately if SCP participation drops.
In further news on the SCP, the Electronic Manufacturers Recycling Management Company, LLC (Mahwah, New Jersey), filed a protest of the issuance of the notice of intent to award the contract program to the National Center for Electronics Recycling (Davisville, West Virginia).
Under Oregon State Law, the MRM is allowed to make such a protest, and the agency must respond in writing to the protest in a timely manner. If the agency rules against the MRM, the organization can seek judicial review.
The MRM is currently gathering up participants for their independent program, signing up "quite a few, already," according to a source close to the decision-making process.
